St. Francis C. of E. Primary School and Nursery

School Curriculum

St Francis Introduces their ‘Golden Threads’.

The Government have implemented a new national curriculum for September 2014. At St Francis, we have used this opportunity to have a fresh look at our curriculum themes and approach to planning. One of our new initiatives has been the development of our own ‘Golden Threads’. This is unique to our school and developed by our teaching staff.

What do we mean by ‘Golden Threads’?

Within our curriculum we wanted to create some core characteristics that would be central to the development of all our pupils; from Nursery to Year 6. These ‘Golden Threads’ have been carefully chosen and developed as important drivers to our planning.

What are the ‘Golden Threads’?

  • Spirituality – awe and wonder
  • Community – a sense of belonging
  • Creative and Expressive Arts – nurturing creativity
  • Knowledge of the World – encouraging deeper thinking

Termly Planning

During the school year the children will be taught the curriculum through a variety of exciting and engaging topics. Below you will find this terms topics and by clicking on the year groups below you can learn more about the classes ‘Golden Threads’.

Maths and Literacy are both subjects where focuses may change depending on the needs of the class. Teachers continually assess pupils and  plan their  lessons with targeted objectives to meet the children’s current needs. Below we have provided copies of the Maths and English Curriculum so you can see the yearly objectives.
