Phonics are the building blocks on which children learn to read and spell. We see it as essential to equip children with an excellent set of phonic skills. It is important to have the support of home when developing phonic skills. A session on phonics has been run on a number of occasions to help support parents with their understanding and use of phonics at home. Please find the notes from the session below.
At St. Francis we have invested in Phonics Bug to help develop pupils phonic skills. Phonics Bug is the first whole-school reading programme that joins books with an online reading world to teach today’s children to read.
Books are assigned to children by the class teacher. If your child has read all the assigned books remember to talk to the class teacher about adding more.
As children read more books they gain more points and are able to access new games.
